What does this course achieve?

Enhance your skills to conduct an arbitration hearing and write a reasoned decision. This course is for employment or commercial arbitrators who wish to review and revive their skills. The course is conducted from time to time on a public basis. The course can be conducted over one or two days, to meet clients' needs.

Course outline

  1. Understand the arbitration context;
  2. Understand the relationship between the Arbitration Act and related sector specific legislation, including the Labour Relations Act;
  3. Conduct an arbitration hearing and deal with all procedural and substantive issues, including objections, in an even handed manner
  4. Understand the essence of the law of evidence;
  5. Write a reasoned award within the agreed terms of reference;
  6. Conduct yourself according to a code of professional conduct.

This course is accredited by the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP) and is aligned to unit standard unit standard 119941 Manage and Conduct an Arbitration Process (NQF occupational qualification level 5, 12 credits).
