Managing discipline in the workplace

What does this course achieve?

This one-day programme will introduce you to the requirements for managing misconduct in the workplace and carrying out disciplinary processes in a fair manner. As a manager or representative, learn how to counsel employees for minor misconduct, issue disciplinary warnings, gather the information necessary for the preparation of a disciplinary charge for more more serious misconduct, and prepare for the enquiry.

  1. Purposes of fair disciplinary action
  2. Difficulties encountered when taking disciplinary action
  3. The law of unfair dismissal
  4. Substantive and procedural considerations for dealing with misconduct fairly
  5. LRA Code of good practice on dismissal
  6. Remedies for unfair dismissals in terms of the LRA
  7. Procedures for:
    1. Counselling
    2. Issuing warnings
    3. Disciplinary enquiries e.g steps in the process, formulating a charge, gathering and presenting evidence and presenting your case

This course is accredited by the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP) and is aligned to unit standard 11286 Institute Disciplinary Action (NQF occupational qualification level 5, 8 credits).
