Labour and Employment Mediator Skills

What does this course achieve?

This course combines an understanding of pertinent concepts in negotiation and mediation with opportunities for practice and one on one feedback. This course is conducted over three days and may be followed by assessment over a further two days.

Course outline

  1. Identify the behaviours of successful mediators and practice the communication skills that they most frequently use
  2. Understand modern negotiation theory and practice, and its application to mediation
  3. Understand a typical mediation process and the role of the mediator
  4. Explore the shortcomings of litigation, arbitration and negotiation
  5. Identify the characteristics and advantages of mediation

This course is accredited by the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP) and is aligned to unit standard 117848 Conduct Mediation in Situations that Require Advanced Skills (NQF occupational qualification level 5, 12 credits).
