Conflict Management Skills for Teams and Groups in the Workplace

In your capacity as a manager be able to manage conflict and prevent or resolve disputes in groups and teams in an effective manner. This course aims to equip you with basic skills in needs-based conflict management as well as joint problem-solving techniques for interpersonal or team conflict. This course can be conducted over two or three consecutive days or in a modularized format, to meet clients' needs.


  1. Identify the obstacles to effective conflict management in the workplace
  2. Understand the different approaches and process options for conflict management
  3. Explore the conflict dynamic
  4. Understand modern negotiation theory
  5. Explore how teams form and how conflict is generated within teams
  6. Identify suitable structures and processes for employee participation
  7. Practice the joint problem-solving process for use in interpersonal conflict and in teams and groups
  8. Develop effective consensus building skills including listening skills, paraphrasing; managing reactive devaluation, use of ‘I’ statements, handling anger
  9. Be able to facilitate team meetings and other participative processes

This course is accredited by the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP) and is aligned to unit standard 114226 Interpret and Manage Conflicts within the Workplace (NQF occupational qualification level 5, 8 credits).
