The pilot project for the implementation of court-annexed mediation in a limited number of Magistrates Courts in South Africa will commence on 1 December 2014 in 9 courts in Gauteng and 3 in North West. The Department of Justice and Constitutional Development has published the names of the Magistrates Courts where the court-annexed mediation rules will come into operation, see Gazette No 38164. The Cape Town, Khayelitsha and Belville courts previously earmarked to be part of the project, have been omitted for the time being.
The Department has also published Schedules 1 & 2 pertaining to the fees payable to mediators, and the qualification, standards and levels of mediators, pursuant to Rules 84 and 86 of Chapter 2, see Gazette 38163.
