Inbam (Inbakarasee) Pillay

Professional background and experience:

Inbam is a highly experienced labour law consultant and an accredited mediator, arbitrator and leadership coach. Her experience traverses academia, legal practice, corporate executive and management consulting, making her highly effective at facilitating situations involving workplace conflict. She is a non-practising attorney and has a MA in Law. Using her certification as a Lumina Leadership coach, alongside her alternative dispute resolution skills, Inbam is a highly skilled facilitator with excellent inter-personal skills. She also lectures for recognised business schools and serves as a labour law advisor and/or chairperson to many well-established clients across various business sectors. 

Mediation experience and style:

Inbam is a Conflict Dynamics accredited mediator whose vibrant and confident demeanour resonates across all organisational levels. She has experience addressing conflicts from management to workers and in highly unionised environments. She employs a collaborative approach that empowers parties by blending her subject matter expertise with extensive interpersonal and coaching skills. Her singular mission is to foster viable, long-lasting solutions to conflicts.

Chairing enquiries and investigations experience:

Inbam is an accredited arbitrator (Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa—University of Pretoria). She was a Commissioner for the Motor Industry Bargaining Council (MIBCO) and Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC). As a corporate executive and currently as an independent labour law advisor, Inbam has chaired many disciplinary hearings. She has also been subcontracted to labour law consultancies as a chairperson.

Facilitation and Coaching experience and style:

As a Lumina Leadership Coach Inbam has facilitated corporate team leadership effectiveness workshops for large organisations (local and international) which were focused on team effectiveness, collaboration enhancement and/or performance improvements. Some of her client contracts include one-on-one coaching of executive leaders. Inbam is also a Neuro Linguistics Programming (NLP) accredited coach and she has effectively incorporated her coaching skills and competencies into her workplace mediation practice. This has been positively received by her clients. Inbam volunteers at the Pro Bono (Constitutional Hill) Divorce Clinic and Labour Law Clinics, where she mentors and works with students and interns in the management of client cases. In her role as an executive manager, she spearheaded mentoring and coaching programmes to drive leadership development initiatives. She currently supports the Vance Institute (USA) Project with the advancement of African Women in Law Programme mentoring programme (3rd Cohort running).
