Mark Turpin

Professional background and experience:

Mark is a seasoned organisational consultant with over 30 years of experience as a coach, consultant, lecturer at the Wits Business School, mediator, and advisor to senior executives across public and private sectors. He is an accredited mediator with Conflict Dynamics, the Centre for Effective Resolution of Disputes (CEDR) and the South African Dispute Settlement Accreditation Council (DiSAC), specializing in diversity issues, team development, and facilitating workplace relationships. He holds an MBA from Wits Business School and an MSc in Public Policy and Management from SOAS at the University of London. Additionally, he possesses a Post-graduate Diploma in Leadership Coaching.

Mediation experience and style:

With more than ten years of experience, Mark has mediated conflicts across Southern Africa, Europe (including Ireland), and the Middle East. He adopts a goal-oriented approach to mediation, often employing an appreciative style to unlock and value the potential of the individuals involved, empowering them to find their own solutions.

Facilitation experience and style:

Mark boasts extensive experience in facilitating and training individuals to navigate difficult conversations and enhance negotiation skills. His facilitation expertise primarily revolves around addressing interpersonal conflicts in workplace settings. Additionally, Mark is experienced in providing guidance to senior managers in both public and private sectors to effectively manage challenging situations.

Coaching experience and style:

Mark has worked as a coach and mentor since the 1990s. At this time, he was supporting exiled members of the ANC with internships in the UK public and private sectors as they prepared to return to South Africa. Since then, he has employed an appreciative style rooted in positive psychology in his coaching approach. Mark has built a substantial coaching practice, working with individuals across various levels and sectors of the South African economy. His focus lies in assisting people through challenging transitions in their careers.
