Professional background and experience:

JP is a seasoned mediator, manager and business advisor with extensive experience in various management and advisory positions. Currently, he practices as a mediator and medico-legal practitioner, and serves as an Executive Director of the South African Medico-Legal Association (SAMLA).Over the years, JP has gained valuable experience working with both small and large groups, from assisting smaller teams to overcome challenges, to facilitating strategic planning sessions for large groups of more than fifty people, such as those for airports food company, Travellers. Additionally, he has provided coaching services to organisations like Nouwen’s Carpets and Nestlé, helping supervisors develop the skills necessary to effectively coach their teams. 

 

JP holds a Master of Commerce from the University of Pretoria and a Master of Business Leadership from the University of South Africa. He is an accredited Associate of the Institute for Independent Business and an accredited mediator by Conflict Dynamics.

Mediation experience and style:

JP began his formal training and accreditation as a mediator in 2016, and since then, he has conducted numerous formal mediations. His published article in De Rebus (Attorney’s Association Magazine) titled “Mediation when Value Systems Differ” (available in the Papers and Presentations section of the Conflict Dynamics website) reflects his deep understanding of mediation in complex cases. JP’s mediation style is primarily facilitative, ensuring that all parties are supported in finding their own solutions. However, he is also comfortable working in a transformative mediation setting, where he takes a more challenging and interventionist role when needed, providing the necessary direction to help parties navigate particularly difficult disputes.

Facilitation experience and style:

With a professional background in addressing various conflict situations, JP has worked with a wide range of organisations to resolve disputes between managers, teams, and individuals. His experience as a productivity adviser has allowed him to help organisations manage change and improve their efficiency. In these situations, he adopts a facilitative approach, assisting parties in identifying and implementing their own solutions.

Coaching experience and style:

JP has coached various organisations, focusing on helping managers and supervisors to acquire essential coaching skills. He emphasizes learning through application, creating practical experiences for participants to engage with. He supports and encourages productive behaviour, while modelling effective coaching techniques to reinforces the skills he teaches.
