Professional background and experience:

Norman Janse van Rensburg has over 25 years business experience in the financial and commercial fields. His commercial experience includes commercial risk Analysis and governance, contract management and process improvement. He has successfully negotiated and concluded multiple agreements across Southern Africa (South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Mozambique) and South America. 

He has a proven track record of establishing a fully-fledged in-house commercial function operating across multiple jurisdictions. His financial expertise in the FMCG, manufacturing and mining industries, includes financial management, financial analysis, project management, strategic planning and value modelling.

His experience provides him with the skills to understand the financial and commercial impact of negotiation decisions. Having been involved in numerous tough negotiations he also understands the emotional impact this can have on the parties involved.

Norman currently runs a training business teaching the interest-based approach to negotiation, persuasion, and leadership development. Understanding parties’ interests is a key step in the mediation process.

Norman is a qualified Chartered Accountant and a CEDR and Conflict Dynamics accredited mediator.

Mediation experience and style:

Norman has come to understand that long-term relationships, or conflict resolution, can only be achieved if the interests of different parties are understood and aligned. His mediation approach is to allow a safe space for parties to have conversations on issues that are important to them.

Coaching experience and style:

Following a structured, interest-based approach, Norman has worked with numerous parties, coaching them to thoroughly prepare for negotiations. He uses these skills to assist parties to prepare for mediations and to guide them as the process unfolds.
