André holds BComm and LLB degrees from the University of Stellenbosch and an LLM (International Law) degree (School for Advanced Legal Studies) and postgraduate certificate in legal practice (with distinction) from the University of Cape Town. He also holds a postgraduate certificate in public international law from the University of Pretoria, and a certificate in Civil and Commercial Mediation from the University of Stellenbosch’s Business School. In government service, he completed the International Humanitarian Law for Planners and Executors of Naval Operations course (International Institute of Humanitarian Law in San Remo, Italy), multiple peacekeeping modules with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (Peace Operations Training Institute) that includes international conflict resolution, and the Senior Air Warfare and Senior Air Staff Courses.
He is an attorney of the High Court of South Africa, military law practitioner, part-time lecturer with the University of Pretoria, member of the International Network to Promote the Rule of Law, Department of Defence legal adviser, senior Air Force officer, and is CD/ACDS and CEDR accredited.
